I was honored to be asked to write a chapter in this book in memory of my later mentor and friend Dr. Robertson. He was a very important part of my life and helped make me the historian I am today. My chapter is on the 1863 Governors race in Kentucky. I always thought I would be a military historian but it was Dr. Robertson and Jack Davis while at Va Tech that started me down the road of political history. Thank you Steven E.
