When Grant was given the command of the entire operation of the War, he developed a different type of plan to defeat the south. Instead of fighting a war of attrition he would fight a war of exhaustion. More than just defeat the enemy little by little and wear then out, he wanted to attack them at every level including their economy and psychological warfare. The southern population had to be included in the destruction of war to finally break their will to continue to support the Confederacy.
This will be my last Class Notes of the year as my semester if finished. I will pick up in January when I will be teaching a class on Modern America, the Civil War in Memory, and American Religions. I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas.
