As WWI was coming to an end, Wilson stepped forward with a plan for peace that involved several points for how to shape the post war world. However, what Wilson was not aware of was that the world had stopped caring about progressive issues. People were more concerned with economic issues like high inflation and were now paying a new income tax, just passed by Wilson, to pay for progressive programs. More than anything else, however, many saw the war as what happens when progressivism runs amuck. They had lost some of their innocence during the war and now wanted to “return to normalcy.”
