On the last stop on our Christmas travels was to Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Presidential Library in Abilene, KS. We love visiting Presidential homes and libraries. Even the kids enjoy learning about the presidents. The museum was heavier on his life as General than as President but learning more about his role in the War was interesting as well. Two things about Ike as president that I live, one I came in with and one I learned. First, one reason I think he was a good president was he knew that he did not know everything, I appreciate this. He hired good people, like Dulles, and listened to them. What I felt I learned from the museum was his desire for peace during his administration. He knew war and wanted to avoid it all costs. He is often characterized as aggressive towards the Russians, but the museum did a good job showing how much he did everything he could to avoid conflict. If you are every travelling around Kansas it is worth the visit.
