Class Notes

When it came to declaring ourselves independent, one thing that should never be under played is the pamphlet “Common Sense.”  More than any other piece of literature, this writing helped sway the colonists of the need to break away.  We had been having issues with the British Government for some time but had taken that discontent all the up the ladder to the King.  It was Paine that helped us see how the King was not so much a divinely appointed sovereign but was in fact a tyrant who instead of protecting our divine rights was hurting them.

This will be my last class notes of the year as my semester is coming to an end.  I hope you have enjoyed these daily reminders of history. I will pick back up again in the spring with classes on the US History from 1789-1865, 20th Century politics, and the 1950s.
