Columbus ends up taking four separate journeys to the New World.  Each time he tried to set up a colony.  When he arrived the second time, he found the natives had killed everyone he left behind.  When he arrived the third time, he found that the Spanish and overthrown his brother because like Columbus he was a bit of a tyrant.  Both brothers were sent back in chains.  On his fourth time he was told not to go back to Hispaniola because the colonists there would kill him.  He sailed around until he wrecked his ship, and the Hispaniola leadership was forced to rescue him.  Most believe he wrecked on purpose as a way to try to get back to his original colony.  Once again, he was sent straight back to Spain where he died poor and miserable.
