When JFK took over the presidency he had to decide if he wanted to continue with his predecessor’s plan of invading Cuba and overthrowing Fidel Castro. The CIA had assured the new president that Castro was not popular with the Cuban people and they would revolt against him with the invasion. The Bay of Pigs invasion did not go as planned and was thoroughly defeated. Most people think of Camelot when they think of the Kennedy administration, but his first year did not go so well. The Bay of Pigs disaster emboldened the Russians, this new young inexperienced president was not Ike and they began building the Berlin Wall and moving new weapons into Cuba.
