What we need is another election of 1952. The winner was a lock even before the parties announced their candidates. Both parties in ’52 were hoping to nominate Dwight D. Eisenhower, the hero of WWII. The only issue was no one knew what party he supported. When he announced he was a Republican the 20-year reign of the Democrats was broken. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president today who could lead like Ike and yet be so nonpartisan that both sides would want him.
Hello, James,
I stumbled across one of your posts recently and enjoyed it so much that I subscribed. I really appreciate some of the posts that you’ve written on the events of the last several weeks. Nice to know your Virginia connections, too. I live in Roanoke, not far of course from Virginia Tech. I am a history buff and am interested in current events, although the tribalization and the weaponization of politics over the last several years makes it more difficult to stay on top of current events than before. It’s similar to seeing a bad car accident…so bad that you don’t want to look at it, but so bad that you can’t help taking a peek. That’s why your post today on the election of ’52 resonated especially well.
Thanks very much, again!
Keith
