The attack on Pearl Harbor is one of the saddest days in American History. The Japanese were hoping for a knockout blow that would keep out sidelines in the war. However, even though they did a great deal of damage they did not hit our power plants or fuel tanks which would have been devastating. They also did not hit our aircraft carriers that were out on maneuvers at the time. What they did do is awaken a sleeping giant that now had the full support of the American people and its resources.
