Impeachment.

As for the acquittal of President Trump there is no surprise. Historically speaking there is nothing new, all three impeachments have ended the same. Yet what is historically significant is that this will be the first time an impeached president will run for another term. It will interesting to see how that plays out.

As for Mitt Romney, I’m of two minds. First, believing as I do that impeachment’s are political, there is something to be said for party loyalty. As you know I believe if a Democratic President made the same phone call Republicans would be crying foul while Democrats would defend it, it’s political and he was elected as a Republican.

Yet, at the same time I always fall back on one of the best political minds of all time, Edmund Burke who said “Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion.”

Romney is not the first senator to vote against party lines in an impeachment, I will have more on the Johnson impeachment on Monday.
